This presentation will integrate the concept of “holding a child’s mind in mind” with the DIR Floortime model. We will show the application of these ideas in the settings of everyday parenting and primary care pediatrics, as well as in a referred population of infants and young children with suspected developmental disorders.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to

• describe the concept of “reflective function” or “holding the child in mind” and as it relates to the DIR/Floortime model

• explain how state regulation and sensory processing can support the concept of “holding the child in mind”

• apply the integrated DIR/floortime/reflective functioning model to parenting and primary care pediatrics as well as a referred population.
